Community-based Para Legal Volunteers (PLV) Training

On 01 July 2026, the Development and Justice Initiative (DAJI), Abhayapuri successfully conducted a Community-Based Training of Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) on Access to legal aid. The programme was organized to strengthen the capacity of community-based PLVs in assisting vulnerable communities by enhancing their understanding of documentation, legal aid mechanisms, legal procedures, and approaches to improving access to justice.

The training highlighted the important role of PLVs in supporting individuals and families to identify, obtain, and preserve essential documents, navigate legal processes, and access legal aid services, thereby promoting greater access to justice. Advocate Samiul Islam and Advocate Anisur Rahman, practising advocates at the Abhayapuri SDJM Court, emphasized the importance of documentation and legal procedures. Advocate Puja Barman, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Bongaigaon, explained the procedure for availing free legal aid and how PLVs can assist vulnerable communities in accessing legal services. Shahjahan Ali Ahmed, a social worker from Baksa district, shared practical field experiences on community legal support. Through these sessions, community-based PLVs gained practical knowledge on documentation, legal aid mechanisms, and facilitating access to justice.

Through interactive discussions and knowledge-sharing, the programme strengthened the capacity of participants to provide informed legal assistance at the community level and improve access to justice across Assam.
